The History of NorthState Technology Solutions

For over 100 years, the NorthState brand has stood for technology leadership, and we are proud of the latest chapter of our heritage as we help growing business enterprises thrive and solve their most difficult IT challenges.

In working directly with talented CIOs, CISOs and IT leadership within our client partners, we realized the need to stay ahead of the evolving IT and digital landscape.  As a result, to better support our customers, we purchased DataChambers in 2011 and Stalwart Systems in 2015.  As of May 2017, these two great companies were officially relaunched as NorthState Technology Solutions, offering our customers and partners comprehensive cybersecurity and cloud solutions, as well as managed and professional services, to help solve their biggest IT challenges.

The former DataChambers, a data center/colocation and cloud service provider, is literally the “bunker” of the NorthState portfolio: It was located in an old nuclear shelter where, back in 1952, Western Electric developed the original ICBM control card, and which now serves as the original high-security data center facility. This Hurricane Grade 3 building provides the safe haven companies need to protect company and customer data, allowing NorthState Technology Solutions to offer IT services including Business Continuity, where companies impacted by a disaster can simply move into a disaster recovery center equipped with conference rooms and hundreds of seats for displaced workers. 

Leading providers of cybersecurity, system integration, and managed services since 2002, the five founding engineers of Stalwart Systems, styled the “Navy SEALs of Security,” now provide the cybersecurity at the core of every NorthState Technology Solutions project. From penetration testing to cybersecurity engineering, from secure Multi-Cloud Exchange to Cybersecurity Compliance as a Service for credit unions and regional banks, security is woven into the fabric of everything that we do. The company has continued to expand, setting up offices in Bangalore and Chennai, India, and offering a 100% guarantee on a series of global projects.

NorthState Technology Solutions now serves 500 clients in 38 states and 10 countries, including both large-scale enterprises and small to medium-sized companies.

At our start, NorthState was established as High Point Telephone Exchange in 1895. In 1899, the company was purchased by J.F. Hayden, an inventor and visionary who had pioneered the first telephone system in the area. His daughter, Velva Hayden, later continued to drive this expansion as one of the industry’s first female CEOs. In 1905, the company became incorporated and changed the name to NorthState Telephone Company.  From our start as a small local telephone company to our evolution as a growing IT company, NorthState Technology Solutions continues to innovate on behalf of our clients.
